Now is the right time!

start now

There are 28 days left in 2014. Only 28! Today is day 337 of the year, which means it’s almost time for new calendars, planners, and goals for 2015.

That might feel a bit depressing for some, especially if there are goals you set back on Jan. 1, 2014 that have gone forgotten until now. Perhaps you started working on that big dream but lost focus. Maybe, you are now waiting for the new year to relaunch that goal.  I know I never started a diet on a Wednesday. Somehow, Monday was the only day I could start a grand fitness plan. A new week meant a fresh start, right? (Especially after having indulged in several “last meals” over the weekend.) And as for other goals, they always began at the start of new week or month or year.

I say no more. No more waiting. No more procrastinating. No more delays. Yesterday, on a Tuesday, I set a new goal. I will join in BlogHer’s December NaBloPoMo. Might I fall short of posting every day? Perhaps. But, don’t we all risk failure when setting a goal? Failure, I’ve come to accept, doesn’t mean I failed, it means I tried. If I spend any more of my life waiting for the perfect time, perfect day, perfect month or year, I risk missing my opportunity to fail or, more importantly, my chance to soar. And, as a parent, that is perhaps one of the most important lessons I can teach my girls.

Carpe diem, my friends, and, let’s all soar together!

  1. I’ve missed you! So at the end of my day I turn to read you and there you are, committing to another month, getting out there to do more writing. I am so proud of you on every level because you do so much, Mary. I can hardly keep up with you. All I know is I get more delicious time to spend with you. Thank goodness.

  2. “Failure, I’ve come to accept, doesn’t mean I failed, it means I tried.” THAT needs to be a bumper sticker, a tattoo, a family motto, the possibilities are ENDLESS!!! Love this post and am also very thrilled to have you on the nablopomo trail too! Cheers to trying my friend!

  3. Awesome, Mary! I’m doing a 26 day alphabet challenge this month for the same reason. There is a rarely a perfect time to do anything, and if you wait for it, you will never accomplish your goals. I’ve become a big believer in “Done is better than perfect.”
